It's a Baby!!: Avon's Newest Addition

Originally sparked by a mother's love for her children, Tiny Tillia by Avon is a world of charming baby products designed to turn everyday routines into special moments for mother and child. The softest cotton babywear. The smartest developmental toys. The most inspired nursery decor. The highest quality bath and body products. An entire Mommy Tillia line to pamper mom. There's even a cast of lovable characters like Dilly Pig and Duncan Dog who are bound to become baby's new BFFs.

When founder Tiffany Lerman’s children were small, she wanted only the best for her little ones — like any mom would. After searching high and low for everyday items she found nothing was pure, cute or fun enough to fit the bill. Tiny Tillia is the product of Tiffany’s quest to provide the best for her babies.

Now the Avon Products, Inc. family is proud to expand and grow Tiffany’s original vision, bringing the magical collection with toys, bath and clothing products for baby as well as beauty must-haves and accessories for mom.

The Tiny Tillia family of characters is designed by Tiffany herself - straight from the heart of a mother, and have found their way into the hearts of families around the world. Kids gravitate toward the sweet animals and their quirky hobbies, while moms love the cute, wholesome appeal of the characters—and the safe, nourishing benefits of the products.

You can even find a celebrity mom clamoring for Tiny Tillia products – actress Minnie Driver, a Tiny Tillia fan was featured in the first-ever Tiny Tillia Story Book. Brainstorming Brunch; Part One: Girls Night In

Today was my first monthly brainstorming brunch hosted at my place; a place I just moved into a month ago when things were very different. I was new to the area and the state of Oklahoma, I hadn’t sold Avon to another person, and the women that were attending the brunch were those met via the Facebook group page for our district.
All of the uncertainty fell away instantly as friendly faces were now put to the names and status updates from just weeks ago. We began introducing ourselves and were excited to share what our plans were for our individual Avon businesses; working to supplement income, using as their sole means of support, just starting out a few days ago, or working this business for two years. We came together as a group of women with a common goal; to work for “the company for women”….making money for our families, a career for ourselves, and an opportunity for our customers; either with our various product lines or becoming a colleague.
I made muffins and shortbread; coffee and juice; even fruit for our healthier of representatives. But the table was set, with no intent of eating at it….that is the focus of my entry today.
In beginning my Avon business, I want to host parties and not limit my order taking to the number of brochures I pass out….although that will still be a big part of it; after all… that is what made Avon #1 in direct sales around the world. I love the idea of hosting a party; whether for my friends or family, or to showcase amazing products of a company that I am now a part of.
My theme for this party was “Girls Night In.” It was a huge success with my fellow representatives today and I wanted to share the ideas I implemented with others to either emulate in its entirety or to choose bits and pieces that will work for their specific customer’s.

The most important thing I wanted to do in creating a “Party Table” was to make sure that all elements were represented; Skincare, makeup, fragrances, accessories, and samples. It is important to remember when creating your own “Girls Night In” theme table; you make it your personality. If you are more traditional; stick with a black and white theme, if country is more your style, incorporate fun checks, plaid, or printed placemats. It is all about your personality and the interest that you think will most speak to your customer. As you can tell from the picture; my style is very colorful and never matching. I love to mix and match styles, patterns, and color but the goal is to make it pleasing to the eye for your hostess and her guests; setting the best stage possible for your Avon display.

I started with four individual place settings of china; none of them matching. I took the salad plate from one set and moved it to the right, placing it on top of a completely different dinner plate….regardless of whether or not it matched; that was the allure of it for me.
This doesn’t have to be anything expensive….I simply grabbed things I had at home already.
Dressing up the martini glasses was next on my agenda. Brightly colored bows and bottles of Scentini in all three “flavors” was the signature demo scent placed in each glass; just begging to be looked at and sampled. The ribbon can be any size and color to go with your decorating scheme. Using wine glass markers is another way to tie in your theme if you are looking for something a bit different. I included small picture frames as placecards but again, this is all optional. Another great benefit to being an Avon Independent Representative; we are in business for ourselves but not BY ourselves. We each get to run our businesses as we see fit but have amazing resources, networking, and training opportunities.

Now that the fragrance part of my display was taken care of; my focus shifted to makeup and color. Lipstick candles seemed like the most likely of candidates and it took zero time to put it together. I looked around bookshelves to pick out candlesticks I already owned and grabbed a gold bulky mirror from the hall. I wanted to use the mirror as a base to add drama and to fill in the visual space on the tabletop. I selected three candlesticks in various styles, age, and color and then inserted a few of the lipsticks found in my personal makeup case. (New ones work better and demos or discontinued shades would be great for this purpose). It is a little interior design secret to make displays in odd numbers; I chose three and didn’t pay attention to the shade, patina, or shape. Again….I am all about mixing patterns, styles, and colors.

Fragrance?: check
Makeup?: check
Skincare?: Coming up.
I wanted to incorporate the Anew skincare regimen into my display because in doing a lot of my Beauty of Knowledge training this week, it has been made clear to me that skincare is the meat of my business and I like meat.
Another simple trick but one that serves two purposes. I just wandered around the house, found a set of matching (yes…matching) votive cups and slipped the revitalizing creams into the tops. Display is done. Again, not only does this add another element to my table, it is not just a flat display but adds visual interest to a quickly filling tabletop. Not anything fancy, expensive, or hard to recreate but a trick that is definitely worth trying even if just displaying on a countertop or folding table; no time, no cost, no brainer.

Next on the agenda; accessories: I had a three tiered cake made of hat boxes and fabric (don’t ask….. I know I have some pretty strange things just “lying around” but they don’t seem so strange when you actually get to use them.)….. =)
Being new to Avon and not having served any customers yet, I haven’t had the opportunity to purchase much jewelry…. YET. But I strung a “non-Avon” necklace across the top of my cake as a topper and will definitely replace with Avon or Mark baubles, placing earrings or rings at the base of the cake plate. I am going to offer my Hostess a couple of drawing options at her party; if she has at least 6 ordering guests, I will draw for “Ice….shaken, not stirred.” A blingy piece of jewelry in the $10-20 price range. If she has at least 12 ordering guests, either in attendance or pre-ordered and paid… I will do a drawing for TWO pieces of “Ice” or a larger piece; depending on my collection of Hostess gifts or closeout pieces I have previously purchased.
Samples are a huge part of earning trust and rapport with a customer. Offering to let people try out a lotion, scent, or color just ensures their happiness with the product AND your customer service; being genuine in helping them find exactly what they need at the price they need to keep it.
My vase used for my samples display went from housing cotton balls in my powder room to sitting in prominence on my tabletop. It was something I had and just one more piece that added whimsy and drama. I liked that it was again not a flat basket but was instead raised a bit higher and had a vintage feel. I also liked that it was smaller and took less samples to fill up than a basket would have. It also took up less space on the table but didn’t make it feel cluttered.

Now that your guests have seen, touched, smelled, sampled, “Oooh’d” and “Ahhh’d” over the demos and samples laid before them; it is time to shop. Why not show your appreciation for their attendance and give them a bonus for helping you build your business while giving them a reason to get together. I used a rolled up Mark magalog as a “napkin” and placed in blinged out napkin rings that I purchased at Target years ago at the end of Christmas sale; again just lying around screaming to be used for such a fun project. In the place designed to put a name, I described my sale. Being my own business, I get to decide what to offer so this is another portion of the display that can be designed according to your business plan and goals.

This “Girls Night In” was a fun table display to create and trying it out at a brainstorming brunch with fellow representatives was the perfect “test drive.” I was excited to share how I am planning to run my business but was more excited to learn what was working for them and how they were growing their businesses too. I hope that my colorful table display translates into sales and success for my business but it is definitely just the beginning.
I am looking forward to sharing pieces of our brainstorming brunch in my next blog entry. I hope you get as much out of it as we did.
